Farmer survives hail of bullets

A PROMINENT wine farmer of Paardeberg miraculously survived an attack during which twenty-one shots were fired at him.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday morning, when shots were fired through the bedroom window of Craig Lardner on his farm, Far Horizons.

An unknown gunman allegedly gained access to the farm on foot and knew precisely where Lardner’s bedroom was.

According to a neighbour who was awakened by the burst of gun-fire, it sounded like the firing of a semi-automatic firearm.

Lardner managed to roll off the bed when the shooting started, but not before he was hit in the leg and foot.

He was admitted to a CapeTown hospital for surgery.

Lardner purchased Far Horizons, on the slopes of the Paardeberg Mountain, in 1997. He was previously a property developer before following his passion for wine-making.

No one has been arrested in connection with this incident and the motive for the attack is not known.
